Sheepdog Handling
Tom Longton is an internationally acclaimed sheepdog handler. He is most publicly recognised for winning the 'One Man and His Dog' title and for carrying out training courses, which were filmed at his dairy farm in Lancashire for the popular TV series.
Tom is a member of the most distinguished trialing families, his father and grandfather before him were top English handlers. This unique skill takes Tom all over the world teaching how to train the border collie to work sheep and to judge prestigious sheepdog trials.
His titles include being the English champion an incredible 12 times working bot with single and brace dogs he has achieved the top accolade of international Supreme champion with his dog Bess, he is also an author and has written a book on how to train the sheepdog.
His displays include working with either sheep, geese or ducks and demonstrate his training methods with the intelligent border collies. The display consists of showing the skills used for working the animals back home at the farm and the level of skill required to enter the sheep dog trialing competitions, then Tom and the dogs have fun working the unpredictable ducks and geese.
There is a special bond between a man and his dog which Tom emphasises throughout and each dog's own particular character and personality shines through and is a joy to see.
