Jo Rowland & Ben Hill - Coppice Woodsman
Traditional Yurts and Greenwood Crafts A few years ago we became interested in Woodlandf management and greenwood crafts. We gained experience of woodland management through volunteer work in various woodlands being managed for a variety of uses. Iver the years we have gained our green woodworking skills and from there went on to learn from a group of timber framers where we gained our basic knowledge of green oak framed buildings.
With an emphasis on the ecology we have now expanded into yurt making.
A yurt is a traditional , strong and weatherproff mobile shelter originating from Mongolia. The yurt frame consists of two or three lattice work wall sections, bent wood roof poles, a centre circle and door frame. Traditionally covered with felt, heavy duty canvas is more suited to wetter climates.
During the show we will be demonstrating some of the techniques and processes involved in yurt production. Demonstrations will include preparation of roof and wall poles, steam bending components and putti9ng together lattice work wall sections. We will also have a yurt on display.
