Wocko the Woodman - Barrel Making

WOCKO the WOODMAN

Barrel MakingI joined Knebworth Estates in 1973 as one of a team of 5 woodmen. It was here that I learnt the skills of a coppice worker. From the previous deerkeeper I learnt the art of cleaving wood under control.

Twenty five years later when most of these skills had been forgotten I began attending Country Shows and Rallies to demonstrate these lost arts. A selection of my rustic gates can be seen at Twenty five years later when most of these skills had been forgotten I began attending Country Shows and Rallies to demonstrate these lost arts. A selection of my rustic gates can be seen at www.wocko.com

More recently, taught by an Australian friend who is a cooper, wheelwright and general woodwright; I have been making wooden buckets and barrels.

I expect to be doing this today unless there is a downpour when I might build an ARK !
