IBR - Independant Bird Register

The Independant Bird Register is one of the offical governing organisations within the falconry community.

The main purpose was to ensure that lost / found birds may be reunited with their owners.

To that end it seemed only sensible to start issuing rings that carried the birds identification and a national telephone number where contact could be made at any time to speed up the process of reuniting lost birds.

The breeding of raptors in captivity is seriously hindered by unregistered or unidentifiable birds. When breeding any animal selective breeding is imperative to ensure that the breeding may continue to be successful for generations to come, not to mention that through selective breeding the bloodlines, genes and ability of the offspring are always being enhanced. With the advent of the EC taking charge of many environmental issues it is important that we can demonstrate that we are in control of all aspects of our sport.

By registering all our birds be it to ensure you get them returned should they be found, to stabilize gene pools, to help prevent theft of wild/captive raptors or just to help compile a central register of what is used in falconry in the UK, we could be helping to secure the future of our sport.

There are many ways you can look at registration and see its advantages. As falconers we all know the worst feeling in the world is when you have lost your bird and the best feeling in the world is when someone rings to tell you they've found it.

Our main aim is to ensure you and your birds remain together for the duration.

Where present the IBR will be located in the Falconry village / section of the show.
