Mark Turnbull - Heavy Horse Logging

Working Heavy Horses
Mark Turnbull - Horse Logging and Forestry Services

Mark carries out woodland and environmental contracts using working horses and modern horses and modern horse logging equipment. He works on difficult areas where high access and maneuverability on steep and awkwardsites are required to reduce damage to ground and existing flora and fauna.

Horse provide a high quality extraction method, ideal for selective thinning as larges rides are not required also allowing for small felling areas where it would be uneconomical to use machinery. Low stumps and tidy reduction of brash are needed for horse extraction. This results in a very tidy working area.

Horse and handler can work alone, as a team or can be used in conjunction with and can complement modern forestry machinery.

Horses can be used to extract large volumes of timber or whole trees from difficult areas.

The three horses Mark currently uses are:

Eden - a 16.2hh Percheron

Sally - 14.2hh Dales cross and

Painter a 14.3hh Dales cross
