Wocko The Woodman - Coppice Woodsman

Cleft woodwork, hurdle making
After joining the Knebworth Estate in Stevenage as a woodsman, L. Wyn Watkins, or Wocko the Woodman, quickly developed a respect for the traditional skills of the pre-machine woodsman. He also acquired a deep love of ancient woodlands and the tree species that inhabit them.

Still living on the Knebworth Estate Wocko is still allowed to select and fell his own timber, which is then used for work on the Estate including maintaining the 4 miles of deer fencing.

Over the shows duration, you'll be able to see Wocko working on fencing, hurdles, gates and for architectural work, hewn beams, oak laths and battens.

Half a Lifetime Experience of Non Mechanical Methods of Using and Shaping Green Timber. Everything Stsrts With The Tree. Pass it On!
