So What is Flyball?

Flyball, or to give its proper name - International Flyball Racing, is a team "knockout" relayrace with 4 dogs and their owners in a team. The object of the race is for each dog to jump 4 low hurdles, trigger a Flyball box, catch the ball and return over the start/finish line. When the first dog returns the next dog is released and so on. The race is won by the first team to get 4 dogs and 4 balls back without fault.

Flyball History

It’s the most exciting and unique Dog Sport ever invented. First seen in California in the late 70's. Where Herbert Wagner, developed a ball launcher as a demonstration for his canine obedience graduations. As it was fun for the dogs and owners, he was asked to show America on National TV. In the early 80's the sport became so popular that the North American Flyball Association (NAFA) was formed. In the early 90's Flyball came to Britain, where a group of enthusiasts formed the British Flyball Association (BFA).

Flyball is "played" in two lanes side by side, with two teams of four dogs. The concept of the race has been covered in "So what is Flyball?", but "playing to win" is what it’s all about.
